Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same chemical makeup, crystal structure and hardness as mined diamonds, and are grown in a laboratory instead of mined. IGI, the International Gemological Institute, issues a grading report on a stone's cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Every item here is described as lab-grown. Are lab-grown diamonds real?

Yes. They are chemically and physically diamond. The difference is origin: grown in a lab rather than formed in the earth.

What does an IGI report tell me?

It records the diamond's carat weight and its cut, color and clarity grades, and states that it is lab-grown.
